Real-time access to and analysis of results
Written by richard the 15 Nov 11 at 10:47. Global category: Statistics. New
I run many surveys for many different companies on a Limesurvey account. What I would like to be able to offer them is:

real-time access to their survey results displayed in a dynamic interface, like a proper reporting tool. This would complete the delivery from Limesurvey, from start/invitations, through the survey runtime all the way to reporting the results.

"lottery" for LimeSurvey
Written by vierundzwanzig the 4 Nov 11 at 09:58. Global category: Statistics. New
use case

The creator of a survey should be able to include a lottery into the survey. The participant will leave his/her e-mail address for participation in the lottery. In the admin tool it should be possible to see how many people have participated in the lottery and randomly select a number of e-mail addresses for the winners.

requirements

- If the participant takes part in the survey no conclusions about the participant should be possible. For example if the e-mail address is stored in the same survey database table or the sessionID and timestamp of the participation of the survey and lottery are stored in both of the two separate tables.
- The lottery should be part of a survey. It should not be a link to a new/additional survey (with navigation and "submit" button).
- The selection of winners should be done automatically by the LimeSurvey admin tool.

Solution #1: new question type "lottery-email"
Written by vierundzwanzig the 4 Nov 11 at 09:58.
A new question type "lottery email" is to be created. This type will be used as a free text field for entering the e-mail address. Writing to the database is done in a separate table like "lime_win_SID" without the SessionID or timestamp being stored in this table to ensure that no conclusions about the participants of the survey can be drawn.
In the area "responses & statistics"/"statistics" there should be a new textbox and a button to specify a number of winners. The winners are determined via random-number generator from the answers of the question with the type "lottery email". The winners are then shown on the page.

Solution #2: integrate a new single page survey
Written by vierundzwanzig the 4 Nov 11 at 09:59.
For the lottery and the actual survey two separate surveys will be created by the same creator. The question group with the e-mail address from the lottery survey will then be integrated in the actual survey with a new feature (a new drop-down box to display another survey of the creator. The question group should also be used in the selected survey). The e-mail address is stored in the database table of the lottery survey.
In the area "responses & statistics"/"statistics" there should be a new textbox and a button to specify a number of winners. The winners are determined via random-number generator from the answers of the question with the type "lottery email". The winners are then shown on the page.

Logging system, isn't it necessary?!
Written by yaziderman the 31 Oct 11 at 10:17. Global category: Statistics. New
We use the limesurvey as a survey for our mystery shoppers, it works well, but we wonder why we receive complains from some of them from time to time that an interruption occurs while filling a survey, a problem that doesn't happen frequently, but it happens sometimes and leads to loss of time and effort!

I suggest that you add a logging system, so that we may be able to trace users steps on our surveys, this way, we may recognize the source of the problems! it's maybe a bug in a browser or an action that the user takes by fault, logging system would help us in finding these facts and by consequent recommend tools to users to avoid these problems rather than fixing them!

Solution #1: Adding a normal logging system
Written by yaziderman the 31 Oct 11 at 10:17.
it's very simple and native idea to add a logging system, user interactivity (visited pages, clicks, browser blocks, session time out, etc.. ) on the system have to be written in a log file.

Tracking a survey via an RSS feed
Written by lachmac the 22 Sep 11 at 17:27. Global category: Statistics. New
I run quite a few surveys that are open for 7 days. It is important to issue reminders, and it is important to do this with the right timing, and it would be good to keep other people in our own organizations, and in the customer organization up to speed with the way the survey is going - most specifically with regards to the response rate.

For a company using Limesurvey to do market research type of inquiries this would be an easy way to get an edge vs some of the more expensive non-open source tools that exist.

I had the idea that this should be possible to do using an rss feed. The RSS feed should provide data for;

The name of the survey
When the invitations were sent out
Number of respondents that have been invited
Number of completed surveys

So for example;
Survey [SURVEYNAME]
Started [DATE, TIME]
Invited number of respondents [RESPONDENTS_INVITED]
Completed number of surveys [COMPLETED_SURVEYS] corresponding to a
response rate of ([COMPLETED_SURVEYS]/[RESPONDENTS_INVITED]) %.

Solution #1: Put an RSS feed for the token summary page
Written by lachmac the 22 Sep 11 at 17:27.
Most of the information is available on the TOKEN summary page, so the RSS could be generated from that point, or from the Responses Summary page.

I am not a good enough programmer to see quite how this should be done, but on the face of it it does not appear to be so difficult.

Paradata recording
Written by myksyd the 19 Sep 11 at 18:34. Global category: Statistics. New
The idea is: during answering respondent could change his vote, think different time on each question, swich to other window or site (this data names paradata - data about collection of information). It is important to record all this movement and actions to further analise.

knowing presentation order of randomized questions can be important
Written by Tiepies the 9 May 11 at 14:45. Global category: Statistics. New
Randomization of questions is a great feature included in LimeSurvey 1.91. For people using LimeSurvey in psychological research, however, knowing the order in which randomized trials are presented can be important. In the analysis of psychological data, trial number is often included as an additional variable, to account for learning or fatigue effects.

Solution #1: store presentation order of randomized questions
Written by Tiepies the 9 May 11 at 14:45.
Although I don't know myself how to implement this, it does not seem that hard to me to store the presentation order with the survey results. A trial number variable can be added to the results, with a value for each question whenever the survey administrator chooses to randomize the order of the questions. Same goes for the randomization of answers within a question.

I want to know the running time of a survey
Written by Eddie_V the 21 Apr 11 at 13:16. Global category: Statistics. New
into the lime_surveys table there is a field datecreated when the survey was created. What I would like to know about a survey is when it was activated. this to create statistics about how long the surveys are running(or have ran) on our system.

ofcourse to determin how long a survey has ran there would also be a need for DateLastDeactivated.

It would be nice to show the running time of a survey on the current statistics pages. And as in our case those fields could be used for custom statistics about all the surveys that are currently running on the system.

Solution #1: Add DateLastActivated into Lime_surveys table
Written by Eddie_V the 21 Apr 11 at 13:16.
and maybe a field DateLastDeactivated. where the date is stored the survey was last activated and deactivated altho, you can retrieve this from the timestamp given to the lime_old_surveys_% tables.

Cross Survey Reporting
Written by ameghani the 29 Mar 11 at 01:12. Related project: 1.x all. New
Majority of the times people we use survey to generate statistics across multiple projects.
If I have the same questions asked to same people on different projects and present the data collected on multiple surveys collectively.
Can we have this feature in which we can have reporting on a global basis which is applicable to all the projects.

the complaint of filter stats sets
Written by darknico84 the 4 Nov 10 at 10:04. Related project: 1.x all. New
In some situation where you have to "replay" many times the same filters sets on various surveys (but with same question set) it can be very long and bothering to click each time on hundreds of filter sets.

Solution #1: Creating macros for stats filters
Written by darknico84 the 4 Nov 10 at 10:04.
It might be very convenient to be able to re-use a specified filter set without having to choose everything, item by item, each time.
That's why, it could be nice to be able to save your filter settings, to load them back when required and eventually to copy these sets from a survey to another.

Thanks :)

To allow a freer use of NEXT button in the input screen
Written by mapwork the 3 Nov 10 at 19:39. Related project: 1.x all. New
Actually survey users either have press the next button after each questions or after filled out the complete number of questions belonging to questions group.

The first option is often tiring, while the second on may result in very large / long input screens.

The options of creating small question groups is not always convenient as they normally correspond to a logical unit (for which e.g. you want to keep or provide an assessment score).

Solution #1: Optional NEXT button for each question
Written by mapwork the 3 Nov 10 at 19:39.
An option would be to provide each question with the option to insert a NEXT button between that and the next question.

In this way the input screens would be better controlled for more user convenience without compromising the logical structure of the questions groups

Need group mean or calculations for assessments
Written by mfreund the 27 Sep 10 at 12:19. Related project: 1.x all. New
Currently the assessments only seem to allow reporting based on a total value for each group (or perhaps the percentage of total possible score?).

It would be great if it were possible to construct assessments using a mean or other statistic (e.g. median or mode)

Even better would be to be able to create more complex calculations. Some applications might be to allow for differential weighting of questions (beyond simply assigning greater or lesser assessment values), transformation of values (e.g. combining a question with a 4-point scale and one with a 5-point scale), or calculation of new variables using question values (e.g. ratio of two question scores).

Option to show text responses in statistics view (via filter)
Written by Doc101 the 23 Jul 10 at 13:38. Related project: 1.x all. New
We need to disseminate survey results to a large amount of people, and creating users/group and access permissions, plus training everyone to be able to pull result data etc is not practical.

The ability to show text responses and export them from the statistics page would solve this problem and allow quick dissemination of qualitative and qualitative data in an easy to use, familiar format (PDF/Excel)

Solution #1: Filter option to show all text responses to a question
Written by Doc101 the 23 Jul 10 at 13:38.
I think having a filter option to show/export text responses is the best way to go. People will then have the option of keeping all the data quantifiable (as it is now) with the ability to 'browse' responses OR allowing all text responses to be shown directly in the statistics page without having to open any new windows, and with available in the PDF/Excel exports.

Thanks!

Group subquestion stats/charts are presented in fragmented way
Written by mfreund the 6 Jul 10 at 22:08. Related project: 1.x all. New
It would be great if questions containing subquestions (e.g. array questions with multiple questions) could display in statistics and graphs together on a single chart.

Also, pie charts are a poor way to display data that is not categorical in nature. Ordinal (e.g. education level) or scale (e.g. age) variables are hard to make sense of in pie charts.

For example, I often ask respondents to agree or disagree with a number of related statements. It would be good to view the responses together and displayed in a way that conveys that the responses are on a continuum.

Solution #1: Display subquestion stats together, using stacked bar charts
Written by mfreund the 6 Jul 10 at 22:08.
An ideal format for doing this would be a stacked bar chart. Each bar could be a subquestion, and the answer options stacked in the order defined in the question design. (In my example, they would be Strongly Disagree / Disagree / Neutral / Agree / Strongly agree.)
